Luis Torres (1993) is a composer of acoustic, acousmatic, and electroacoustic music, especially interested in the integration of live electronics in his work.

He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Composition from the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico City, studying with composer and conductor José Luis Castillo, the director of Ensemble CEPROMUSIC. Torres also holds a diploma in Film Music from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

Torres graduated with distinction from his first Master of Music in Composition at the Royal College of Music in London, where he studied with Dai Fujikura and Kenneth Hesketh. He subsequently pursued advanced composition studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, earning another Master’s degree in Composition with distinction, under the tutelage of composers Beat Furrer and Franck Bedrossian.

Renowned for his harmonic refinement, expressivity, and innovative sonic landscapes, Torres's music has been performed by acclaimed ensembles in major cities, including London, Paris, Mexico City, Lucerne, Graz, and Vienna. His works have been performed by respected groups such as Ensemble CEPROMUSIC, Fidelio Trio, and the Orchestra of the Royal College of Music in London.

From 2020 to 2022, Torres was designated as The Charles Stewart Richardson Scholar supported by the Parnassus Scholarship by the Royal College of Music. Torres was also the first composer in being awarded with the Scholarship Jumex for Contemporary Art in 2020 and 2022, besides the Scholarship for Academic Excellence offered by the National Institute of Fine Arts for three consecutive years.

Torres has actively participated in several of Europe's most influential academies for contemporary music. In 2021, he studied with composers Heinz Holliger and Dieter Amman as part of the Academy of Contemporary Music in Luzern. In 2023, he attended the Impuls Academy in Graz, studying with composers Clara Iannotta, Francesco Filidei and Marco Stroppa. Torres has also received the guidance and comments from composers such as Frederic Durieux, Klaus Lang, Walter Thompson, Peter Ablinger and Mario Lavista.

 

Torres has been selected to study the Cursus Program on Composition and Computer Music 2024 - 2025 at IRCAM.
