Dark Clouds in the Memory of Mario Lavista was composed in the year that the Mexican composer Mario Lavista passed away, as a tribute to his memory.
The work evokes the atmosphere of a mortuary ritual, gradually unfolding toward a meditative clarinet solo. In the final minutes, the soloist sustains and repeats a single note for an extended time, mimicking the steady beating of a heart—an intimate gesture of remembrance.
