El Lamento del mariachi is, unlike other works in my catalogue, a piece in which Torres explores the sounds and harmonies related to Mexican culture and traditional instruments of this country.

 

Composed for a competition focused on traditional Mexican music, the piece consists of an orchestration traditionally used in Mexican concert music and melodies that resemble the popular songs of the Mixteca region in Mexico.
