La Muerte del Quetzal

For piano and flute

Puebla, Escuela de Artes BUAP, July 2014.

La muerte del quetzal is the piece with which Luis Torres was accepted at the School of Music in Mexico City.

This piece combines clusters and atonal intervals to represent a Mexican legend in which a Quetzal is hunted by a group of Spanish conquerors.

At the end of the legend, the quetzal is trapped and decides to die before pleasing the conquistadors with his song.

According to legend, from that day all Mexican quetzales lost their song until the day when the indigenous Mexican people recover their lands and their freedom.
